Experienced Systems Administrator – MSP Services

We are looking for a experienced Systems Administrator with deep hands-on expertise to operate in a demanding and complex MSP environment. This role is not purely conceptual or architectural; it requires active involvement in the configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of systems. You will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing technical integrations for new clients and leading large-scale projects in close collaboration with our Project Manager (PM).

While this position does not include direct managerial responsibilities, it demands advanced technical mastery, exceptional rigor, excellent communication skills, and a strong customer service mindset. You will play a key role in meeting deadlines, managing budgets, ensuring the quality of deliverables, and implementing tailored technical solutions.

Please note that this role may occasionally require on-site visits to client locations in the Montreal area, with more extended travel being exceptional. A valid driver’s license and access to a car are mandatory.

Responsibilities

 

  • Plan and execute technical integrations (servers, storage, virtualization, networking, security) for new clients in a hands-on manner within an MSP environment.
  • Work closely with the PM, provide regular updates on project progress, and ensure adherence to deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Audit client environments with minimal prior information, analyze existing infrastructure, identify gaps, and propose and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Prepare technical documents in both English and French, ranging from 20 to 120 pages, and produce detailed Scopes of Work (SoW).
  • Coordinate with other administrators to ensure consistency and quality of deliverables while actively participating in technical field operations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, understand their needs, propose and deploy technical improvements, and provide regular progress updates.
  • Support operational teams when required, resolve critical incidents, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Stay current with technological trends, regularly test new functionalities in lab environments, and contribute to the continuous improvement of internal processes.
  • Share knowledge with junior team members and support their technical development.

 

Requirements (Master at least 90% of the following)

 

Core Expertise

 

  1. Microsoft (Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, GPO):
    • Advanced, hands-on administration of complex AD server roles.
    • Advanced troubleshooting (authentication, replication, DNS).
  2. Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, Intune):
    • Full, practical administration of M365 tenants, including On-Prem to M365 migrations.
    • Security, compliance, Intune (MDM/MAM), Conditional Access.
  3. Microsoft Security (Microsoft Defender):
    • Configuration, management, and integration of Microsoft Defender for optimal protection and compliance.
    • Security policy implementation, proactive monitoring, and alert resolution.
  4. Citrix (Virtual Apps & Desktops, DaaS Cloud, NetScaler):
    • Hands-on implementation and administration of Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops.
    • Management of cloud DaaS environments, technical optimization, and security.
    • Practical NetScaler (Citrix ADC) administration: load balancing, optimization, and access security.
  5. Databases (SQL Server):
    • Administration of Microsoft SQL Server: installation, configuration, maintenance, backup, and recovery.
    • Performance tuning, query optimization, and database security management.
  6. Virtualization (VMware):
    • Hands-on administration of vSphere, vCenter, ESXi: deployment, configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting.
    • High availability, disaster recovery, load balancing, capacity planning.
  7. Backup & Recovery (Veeam, BaaS, DRaaS):
    • Advanced configuration and management of Veeam (3-2-1 strategies), restore testing, disaster recovery.
    • Experience with BaaS/DRaaS solutions.
  8. Networking & Security (Fortigate, FortiSwitch, FortiAP):
    • Practical administration of Fortigate firewalls (policies, VPN, filtering, IPS).
    • Advanced configuration of FortiSwitch, FortiAP; hands-on TCP/IP, VLAN, ACL mastery.
  9. Storage (SAN, Fibre Channel):
    • Configuration, management, and optimization of SAN storage arrays and Fibre Channel environments.
    • Diagnosing and troubleshooting performance and connectivity issues.

Additional Assets

 

  • Integration and security for OT environments.
  • Knowledge of Azure/AWS (IaaS/PaaS, security, hybrid connectivity, migrations).
  • MSP experience and tools like N-Able.
  • VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) for private cloud management.
  • Hybrid or cloud migration project planning and operational deployment.
  • Familiarity with IGEL and Wyse thin clients.

 

Skills and Competencies

 

  • Fluency in French and English, both spoken and written, including the preparation of comprehensive technical documents and Scopes of Work (SoW).
  • Curiosity, technological awareness, and regular testing of new features in a lab environment.
  • Rigorous, self-directed, organized, and capable of managing multiple projects under pressure.
  • Team spirit, customer service orientation, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to share knowledge and support the development of junior team members.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a car.

 

Certifications

  • Possession of at least two certifications in the listed technologies (Microsoft, VMware, Citrix, Fortinet, etc.) is required.
