Senior Generalist Systems Administrator

We are looking for a Senior Generalist Systems Administrator to join our Managed Services team. You will be responsible for managing, maintaining and optimizing our IT infrastructure, ensuring optimal availability and performance for our customers.

Responsibilities

 

Virtual Infrastructure Management:

  • Administer and maintain VMware environments (vSphere, vCenter) to ensure optimal performance and high availability.
  • Manage Citrix XenServer hypervisors, ensuring the stability and efficiency of virtual machines.
  • Optimize virtual resource allocation to maximize system efficiency and performance.

 

Backup and Recovery:

  • Manage backup solutions with Veeam, including scheduling, configuring, and monitoring backup tasks.
  • Ensure quick data recovery in case of incidents by regularly testing recovery processes.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.

 

Microsoft and Cloud Administration:

  • Manage Microsoft Windows servers and Active Directory services, including user, group, and group policy (GPO) management.
  • Administer Microsoft 365 services, such as Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Teams, to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Manage Azure resources, including Azure VMs, Azure Load Balancer, and Entra ID, ensuring seamless integration with on-premises infrastructure.
  • Configure and manage Azure Active Directory for user authentication and authorization.

 

Device and Application Management:

  • Use Microsoft Intune for mobile device management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM), implementing compliance and security policies.
  • Deploy applications and OS updates via Intune and SCCM, optimizing deployment processes.
  • Manage devices with MSP tools like N-Able for remote monitoring and proactive management.
  • Use JAMF for Apple device management, ensuring smooth integration into the Windows environment.

 

Security and Networking:

  • Configure, administer, and troubleshoot Fortigate, FortiAP, and FortiSwitch network equipment, ensuring network security and availability.
  • Implement and manage network security policies, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and access controls.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to maintain reliable and secure connectivity.
  • Collaborate with the security team to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities.

 

Citrix Cloud Solutions Management:

  • Participate in the design, deployment, and management of Citrix DaaS (Desktop as a Service) and Citrix Cloud solutions to provide virtual applications and desktops to clients.
  • Integrate Citrix Cloud with existing infrastructure, including on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Configure and optimize Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Service for high performance and availability.
  • Implement security and compliance policies in Citrix Cloud environments.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot Citrix Cloud environments to ensure an optimal user experience.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to stay updated on the latest Citrix Cloud features and updates.

 

Automation and Scripting:

  • Develop PowerShell scripts to automate recurring administrative tasks, improving efficiency and reducing errors.
  • Participate in automating deployment and configuration processes.

 

Technical Support and Maintenance:

  • Provide Level 3 support for complex incidents, working with internal teams and vendors to resolve issues.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of system configurations, procedures, and issue resolutions.

 

Project Management:

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of IT projects, including system upgrades, new technology deployments, and infrastructure improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements, timelines, and necessary resources.
  • Ensure regular tracking and communication of project progress.

 

Requirements

 

Education:

  • University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.

 

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in system administration, ideally within a managed service provider (MSP).
  • Proven experience managing complex, multi-client infrastructures.

 

Technical Skills:

 

Virtualization:

  • Proficiency in VMware (vSphere, vCenter) for managing virtualized environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of Citrix XenServer and application and desktop virtualization.

 

Backup and Recovery:

  • Expertise with Veeam Backup & Replication, including advanced configurations and troubleshooting.

 

Microsoft Administration:

  • Solid experience with Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) and Active Directory.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and associated cloud service administration.
  • Experience with Azure (Azure VMs, Load Balancer, Entra ID) and Azure Active Directory.

 

Device Management:

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Intune for device and application management.
  • Experience with SCCM for software deployment and update management.
  • Familiarity with N-Able for remote monitoring and management.
  • Knowledge of JAMF for managing macOS and iOS devices.

 

Network and Security:

  • Proficiency with Fortigate, FortiAP, FortiSwitch equipment, and network security concepts.
  • Knowledge of network protocols, routing, VLAN, VPN, and network services.

 

Citrix DaaS and Citrix Cloud:

  • Experience with Citrix DaaS (Desktop as a Service) and Citrix Cloud for virtual environment management.
  • In-depth knowledge of Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Service, including configuration, deployment, and management.
  • Ability to integrate Citrix Cloud with hybrid on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Capability to configure Citrix Gateway Services and manage secure access to virtual applications and desktops.
  • Experience with monitoring and analysis tools such as Citrix Analytics for optimizing performance and security.
  • Understanding of best practices for security, high availability, and scalability in Citrix Cloud environments.

 

Scripting:

  • Strong PowerShell skills for system automation and management.

 

Operating Systems:

  • Knowledge of Linux environments is an asset.

 

Non-Technical Skills:

  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, with a strong sense of initiative.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both French and English.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure.

Certifications (Assets):

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert.
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
  • Citrix Certified Professional - Virtualization (CCP-V) or Citrix Certified Expert - Virtualization (CCE-V).
  • Citrix Cloud and Citrix DaaS specific certifications.
  • Fortinet Network Security Expert (NSE) level 4 or higher.
  • ITIL Foundation certification in IT service management.
